  1. Equipment Surcharge

    2 Sep 10

    EQUIPMENT SURCHARGE NOTICE

    Dear Valued Customers,

Since the beginning of this year, there has been an over-whelming demand for containers to support the upturn in global trade. Unfortunately, equipment supply has not kept pace with this upsurge. The container shortage situation has also been compounded by the lead time for the manufacture of new containers.

Newpac, like most shipping lines,  has suffered from such chronic equipment shortage. This situation has invariably been translated into higher costs as a result of :

    a. sharp increases in leasing per diem costs

    b. imposition high pick up charges by leasing companies

    c. unprecedented highs for the price of new containers

    d. significant increase in units repositioned to demand locations

  9. PNG Equipment Handling Charge (EHC)

    11 Mar 10

    PAPUA NEW GUINEA SERVICE

EQUIPMENT HANDLING CHARGE (EHC) ON IMPORT CONTAINERS

    Dear Valued Customers,

There have been various changes implemented by PNG Ports Corporation recently, notably the policy on laden import and empty container storage in PNG port area. Lines are no longer allowed to have empties stored in the port and arrangements have to be made for its own off empty dock storage facilities.

Coupled with significant increases in laden import and empty container storage charges in the port and  shortened free time allowed, these have combined undesirable effect of increasing Lines’ operating costs at rather short notice.

Whilst these recent policy changes were made to free the ports from congestion, this has significantly increased Lines’ costs. In order that we continue to maintain a sustainable service, we have no other option but to recover such cost increases with a surcharge on all import containers into Papua New Guinea. The surcharges are:

    • PGK 350 per 20’
    • PGK 560 per 40’
